SanDisk Portable Drive 1TB External SSD
The SanDisk Portable Drive 1TB is a compact USB-C external SSD designed for fast file storage, everyday backups and transferring content between compatible phones, tablets and computers. It delivers read speeds of up to 600MB/s while weighing only 31.7g, making it easy to carry between home, school, work and travel.
With 1TB of storage, this portable solid-state drive provides space for documents, photographs, videos, music, applications and project files. It is a practical storage device for students, content creators, professionals and anyone who needs more capacity without upgrading their computer’s internal drive.
Why Choose the SanDisk Portable Drive 1TB?
The SanDisk Portable Drive 1TB combines solid-state performance with a simple, lightweight design. Unlike a traditional portable hard drive, an SSD has no moving mechanical parts. This makes it more suitable for users who regularly carry their storage between different locations.
- 1TB capacity for documents, media and backups
- Read speeds of up to 600MB/s
- USB-C connectivity for modern devices
- Compact and lightweight 31.7g construction
- Drop protection tested from heights of up to two metres
- Compatibility with computers, tablets and supported smartphones
- Three-year limited manufacturer warranty
Fast USB-C External Storage
The SanDisk Portable Drive 1TB uses a USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface with a theoretical interface bandwidth of up to 10Gbps. The drive itself provides read speeds of up to 600MB/s, allowing large folders, photographs and videos to open and transfer faster than they would on many conventional portable hard drives.
Actual performance will depend on the connected device, USB port, file sizes, software and operating conditions. The connected computer, phone or tablet must support a suitable high-speed USB interface to achieve the best available performance.
SanDisk does not publish a specific maximum write-speed figure for this model. Write performance is lower than its quoted 600MB/s maximum read speed and may vary according to the workload.
Compact Storage for Work and Travel
Measuring only 75 × 45 × 10mm, the SanDisk Portable Drive 1TB takes up very little space in a laptop bag, camera bag or pocket. Its 31.7g weight makes it considerably easier to carry than a traditional external hard drive.
The drive has also been tested for drop protection from heights of up to two metres. This provides additional protection against everyday accidents, although the drive should still be handled carefully and kept away from liquids, excessive heat and physical pressure.
Use It with Computers, Tablets and Phones
The SanDisk Portable Drive 1TB works with a range of USB-C devices. Official operating-system compatibility includes:
- Windows 10 and later
- macOS 13 and later
- iPadOS 15 and later using the Files app
- iOS 15 and later using the SanDisk app
- Android 13 and later using the SanDisk app
The phone, tablet or computer must support external USB storage. Compatibility can also depend on the device’s USB-C port, power output, operating system and file-management application.
A USB-C to USB-C cable is supplied. Computers with only traditional USB-A ports will require a compatible USB-C to USB-A cable or adapter, which may be sold separately.
Useful for Backups and Large File Transfers
The SanDisk Portable Drive 1TB is suitable for storing and moving:
- Business documents and office files
- School assignments and study materials
- High-resolution photographs
- Recorded videos and editing projects
- Music and personal media libraries
- Computer backup folders
- Presentation and design files
- Files transferred between Windows, Mac, tablets and phones
For important information, use the portable SSD as one part of a wider backup plan. Files that exist only on one drive can still be lost if the device is damaged, misplaced or accidentally erased.
